And here’s why it’s categories are a really neat thing for online stores:

If you have a lot of products on your store, it gets dreary sometimes to navigate through that. One of the ways customers do this best is to quickly search for something (if they know what they are looking for.) And that’s why categories matter, they help people browse better without becoming a tiresome task.

It converts visitors

But what if the people visiting your store are first timers, unfamiliar with your business. Categories are a good headliner that gives them a good idea of what to explore and try.

Two quick tips regarding categories:

  1. Use clear names — don’t make customers guess what a category could be about. If it’s named “mens” it should be a category of men only
  2. Categories of 2 -10 is a good rule of thumb. When categories get to be too many, it becomes burdensome for customers to parse, and converts less.
