Learn more about SEO and how it works

When it comes to SEO (search engine optimization), it’s more simple than you might think. Don’t overthink it! As a physical or online business owner, SEO is needed to drive traffic directly to YOU. Traffic that is, of course, organic. If you are building your brand fresh, you might be wondering, “where do I start?”, or “How do I begin to drive traffic and who?” Building your SEO will create that for you and as you build your brand, an influx of consumers will pour in. You will begin knowing your audience and learn how to cater your SEO to produce the most traffic.

According to the article, How to Know Your Audience to Master Your Marketing Campaigns, by Mindy Weinstein, characteristics of your audience are not dependent solely on demographics. Characteristics include personality traits, interests, values, and opinions. With your audience in mind, meta content is created.

Knowing your audience begins with search engines. For example, Google. It is the most popular search engine used and holds 80% of the global search engine market share. What Google will do is crawl, index, and rank your site in the SERP according to the content your pages contain. Built upon a consumer’s search query, search engines become familiar with your site. Once familiar, search engines determine what consumer’s see first.

What does it mean for Google to crawl, index, and rank a site?

Crawl:

Bots sent out by search engines begin to crawl sites for fresh, relevant content. Reached through backlinks, bots store content depending on what they can crawl.

Index:

Once bots have crawled a site, it is indexed and stored for later use. These are the sites containing content relevant to what an audience searches.

Rank:

Ranking on the SERP means that Google must crawl and index a site first. Rankings are based on content that bots find most sufficient for the searcher’s query.

If you rank high in the SERP, it means that Google found your keywords and phrases to be original! You have found the way to your audience’s heart. Congrats! Keep checking up, as I’ll be covering keywords and phrases later on. They play a critical role in determining rankings.
