When you have it, spend it!

A wise advice to stay creative by using your company budget during social distancing

If you are working in a corporate world, and your company has given you budget on something, then you will agree to this. Having a budget but not spending it by the end of fiscal year will translate into smaller budget (or worse, no budget!) for the coming fiscal year. (Disclaimer: This might not be applicable to you if you are in Purchasing and Procurement Team!)

We have now reached the end of the first semester, most of which were spent under different granularity of social distancing. If your company has set aside budget for employee outing or family gathering this year, at this point in time you could be deliberating on whether you would be able to pull something on that scale off in the second half of the year (due to health-related reasons of course). Yet, aside from the need to spend the budget, you also understand that: 1) employee outing or family gathering is a form of appreciation towards the employees; 2) your colleagues need and deserve some good time after having gone through many work assignments as well as being confined to their homes for so long; 3) these kind of activities are good for physical and mental well being of your colleagues which in turn could be good for the company too. So, why don’t we arrange for some fun-filled activities when it is allowed to do so and by adhering to the healthcare protocols? (Do note that due to social distancing policy, you might have to do the activities in much smaller groups and for many rounds)

Cooking

Learning something together with your friends (or colleagues) is something fun to do. Aside from gaining new skills, you can spend time together, laugh at each other, and reserve memory to cherish. Cooking definitely could tick these boxes. Try swapping your cooked food with your friend’s and be surprised!

Driving

Well, obviously not everyone has played golf before and going to the green without prior practice is daunting. Hence, why don’t we give everyone a chance to practice his/her swing? PS: Don’t worry if you can’t hit the ball the first time. :)

Karting

Loosen up on the brake could be a good way of having a break (pun intended). Yet, remember to drive safely in this speeding ground and don’t let adrenaline take over and ruin the healthy competition.

Bouncing around in trampoline park

Do you want to “have fun, go mad”? This could be the right activity. You could channel that inner child by bouncing around and you could sweat by doing it. With your colleagues in tow, the level of fun and madness will be even higher.

Painting

Art is supposedly good for the development of your right brain. It is also a medium to channel your stress, anxiety, and worry. Hence, why not give it a try one weekend (or more)? You might end up releasing the artist in you (or your colleagues).
