Adam Abiola

Meeting him for the first time, we could deduce just by observing his shy smile, his unconcealed enthusiasm for technology — punctuated by the way his eyes practically lit up — when he was shown the Operations Command Center (OCC) at Venture Garden Group.

The numbers and varying display of realtime data on multiple screens enthralled Adam and you could tell that he had found his ‘comfy place’ in Vibranium Valley.

Needless to say, that room — the OCC — as well as the genius programmer who mans it to date, Opemipo ‘Caster’ Durodola, have become Adam’s favourite place to code from, and Adam’s favourite person to code with, respectively.

Adam and Opemipo

Adam Abiola, the grandson of the Late Chief M.K.O Abiola, is Venture Garden Group’s youngest Intern; a fourteen year-old bright-eyed and well-behaved chap with a keen interest in technology. More interesting however, is the fact that Adam has found his niche — gaming technology. Adam will most likely be Nigeria’s future Zuckerberg, except in the Electronic Gaming Industry.

As Blessing Malumi, the Programmer to whom Adam was assigned put it,

“After our first meeting, I was quite impressed by how much he was interested in learning how to program. He knew exactly what he wanted to do as a programmer; he wanted to be a game developer. He also had some experience working with the Python programming language which he learnt during his summer holiday.”

Speaking with the fabulous guys that have been working with Adam for his 1-month internship with VGG, ‘Tess’, Blessing and Opemipo, it wasn’t hard for us to deduce that, not only is Adam a quick study when it comes to programming, he’s also a curious, pleasant and intelligent boy who may yet be the Mark Zuckerberg of his time, which is quite awesome since Zuckerberg happens to be Adam’s hero anyway!

“In a few years, we could be looking at the next Mark Zuckerberg, as Adam has proven that he will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. He is very determined, has a curious mind and employs a lot of critical thinking in solving the problems assigned to him. For someone his age, this is really uncommon and, in my opinion, these are some of the most important qualities needed for a successful life.” said Blessing.

When asked if he would like to come back to VGG during his next school break to continue his internship, he nodded quite enthusiastically.

We couldn’t conclude this blog post without giving huge props to Adam’s mother, Zainab Abiola who has been supportive in helping Adam achieve his dreams. Indeed, What would the world be without supportive moms?

When asked what he’s been able to do better since his 1-month internship programme with VGG, Adam responded with a proud smile:

“I’m quite sure that I’ll be the best programmer in my school”.
