They say all work and no play makes jack a dull boy. Well, we are a mix of ladies and gentle men and none of us is Jack so we took some time out to play.

On the 22nd of December, the engineering team of Venture Garden Group had a retreat.

The day started with members of the Engineering team catching up and getting involved in small talks. It was refreshing to see team members outside the work environment and in a social gathering. It was even better because there were small chops to go with the gist.

The events finally started rolling and the first on the list was paint-balling — time to bring out the “Spartans” in the “Spartans”.

The first battle was between team red (captained by Ibukun) and team blue (captained by Onyeka). On winning two battles in a row, team blue was declared the winner of the “war”. One thing the battlefield reminded the spartans of is the importance of team spirit.

The second round was fought by a red team again. But this time, against the brown team. The battle was fierce, as by the end of the second battle, there was a tie. The brown team finally won the battle after very stiff competition

After the plays and fights, came the real talk by Nicole. She talked about the present finances of the company and our role in hitting the target for the coming year. She mentioned the new initiatives the company is taking to gratify the activities of committed staff including employee stock options and also incentives for hard work based on completed deals.

This was followed by the game “truth-or-dare” which was targeted at either exposing tiny embarrassing secrets of the players or add a new event to the list of most embarrassing things that had ever happened to them. The best dare had to be Richard’s make up. What made it better? Bunmi Akinyemiju came in while he was still “getting baked”.

Bunmi rounded up the event with an awesome speech. He elucidated how the engineering team will be the focus of the coming year and as such, the members of the team needed to seat up, think ahead and be alert to the world’s technology advancements. He discussed the training opportuinities that are present for the members of the engineering team who prove their mettle and also officially launched VGG 3.0 for us the engineering team.

We concluded by saying this to 2016: We came, we saw, we conquered.
