A year ago, OpenAI launched ChatGPT, igniting competition among big players like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon. As a result, the world also witnessed several AI-driven innovations resulting in Billions of investments in BigTech.

Will these dazzling fireworks create a sobering dose of realism in the coming year?

The Reality Check!

The power of generative AI models to produce realistic and engaging material has amazed us, as demonstrated by ChatGPT from OpenAI, Bard from Google, and Claude from Anthropic.

However, they require a significant amount of data and processing power in order to operate and train. The high cost of these regulations may finally catch up to us in 2024.

According to CCS Insight, as we become more aware of the expenses, dangers, and difficulties associated with implementing and maintaining generative AI, the excitement surrounding it will give way to a reality check.

Chief analyst at CCS Insight Ben Wood issued a warning, stating that generative AI is overhyped and that only a few major businesses can buy the specialist AI chips required, making adoption unaffordable for many others.

AI Detection Warnings to Become Common

AI-generated material is becoming more widely available than ever on the internet as it spreads quickly.

But this spread also poses a challenge: how can we ensure that content generated by AI is authentic and of high quality?

These kinds of content are useful for marketing, education, entertainment, and even the spread of false information. Unfortunately, some AI-generated information can have biases or factual errors that could mislead or hurt users.

CCS Insight predicts that soon search engines will display content warnings alerting visitors when the information they are viewing is written by AI instead of human authors.

This action is similar to what social media companies did, which was to attach warning labels to posts on COVID-19 in an effort to counteract it.

AI-Based Identity Fraud will become a Crime

Well, mimicking is a specialty!

AI has the ability to mimic people’s identities through deepfake technology or speech synthesis. By analyzing speech samples, voice synthesis, a type of generative AI, creates realistic audio clips of a person’s voice.

That’s not it!

Another variation of generative AI, called Deepfake…

This uses an individual’s image or video samples to create believable video clips with their face or body. Although these technologies are useful in many areas, including security, education, and entertainment, they also have the potential to be used for evil purposes, including fraud, extortion, or harassment.

CCS Insight predicts that in 2024, police will apprehend a person using AI to impersonate an individual.

This is a new type of identity fraud that takes advantage of people’s online identity weaknesses.

While Generative AI is surrounded by these, will it fade away?

We can expect more debates and innovations surrounding AI and wait for its impact!
