Pretty much everyone wants to get more ram on their computers. It seems like you never have enough ram these days! For most people that only have 2 to 4 gigabytes of ram, they can sometimes struggle to run higher end programs that need more ram.

Don’t worry, because I’m going to show you how to virtually double the amount of ram on your PC by using a handy tool on windows called the Windows Memory Diagnostics tool. What this tool does is it scans your ram and optimizes it to handle more ram than it is actually used to handling.

Let’s get started!

1. Run a Check Disk

Before we get started we need to check to see if there are any system files that are broken so there won’t be any problems later on. To do this, open your command prompt and type the following command:

chkdsk /f

STEP 1

If the prompt says access denied, close the prompt and right click on the start button and click “Command Prompt (Admin). After entering the command, the prompt will say that it cannot start it because the volume is in use by another process. Press y to schedule it after your PC restarts and you should be good. Restart your computer, and proceed to the next step!

2. Memory Diagnostics

Once your PC restarts and runs the check disk, log back on and got to Start > all programs > Windows Administrative Tools > Windows Memory Diagnostics

The tool will open and press restart now.

3. Boot into Diagnostics Tool

Once your computer boots into the diagnostics tool, press f1 to go into the settings. Once you are there there will be 3 options: Basic, Standard, and Extended. Basic only scans your memory. Standard will scan, but will only optimize minimally. Extended will scan an optimize to the fullest capacity.

Use your arrow keys to move between options and choose extended and press tab to move to the cache section. and leave it at default. Press tab to go to pass count. Pass count is basically how many times the computer will look for opportunities to optimize your ram. 1 will give you the least amount of optimization, and 15 will give you the most. You can decide what you want. However the higher you go, the longer it takes. The scans will take anywhere from 90 minutes to several hours depending on what you want. I recommend leaving this on at night.

Your patience will be rewarded!

4. Check Your RAM!

Once the tests are completed, go to control panel > system and security > system to view your RAM capacity. Your ram should now be at least twice the size!

There you go! You’ve now doubled your RAM. If you liked this tutorial share it, and comment down below what you thought.
