Since introducing the company earlier this week, we’ve received a tremendous amount of support from the blockchain and tech community. You can follow our newly created Telegram and Twitter for all our company updates. While the recent support has been amazing, our core team has been enthused and passionate about our mission of enabling a decentralized version of Amazon and Taobao since we decided to embark on this groundbreaking vision together. We’d like to take a moment to introduce our talented core founding team here.


Denis Lam — CEO

Denis Lam serves as the CEO of Vera Protocol. Denis is no stranger to blockchain technology and its sweeping future business applications. He previously founded IoTBlock (selected as a Top 20 Silicon Valley startup by Plug and Play Ventures in 2019), working with global Fortune companies to help them leverage blockchain and other emerging technologies. A serial entrepreneur who began coding at age 6, he launched his first internet startup at age 14. He holds a B.S. in Engineering and Biotechnology from University of California, Berkeley and speaks five languages. Denis has over a decade experience working with startups and enterprise as a digital transformation engineer, strategist, and visionary. Denis also donates his time to the United Nations’ Global Goals for Sustainable Development (globalgoals.org), leveraging his experience and understanding in emerging technologies to help startups and companies design and develop impact-driven solutions for the world’s most pressing problems.


Michael Arbach — Chief Technology Officer

Michael Arbach serves as the Chief Technology Officer of Vera Protocol. Michael previously was the Chief Architect for Kodak’s groundbreaking blockchain product, KODAKOne, protecting, distributing, and licensing images. The product was one of the first to generate significant revenue in the blockchain space, with over $1 million in licensing claims after just a few short months. Michael was also the Chief Blockchain Architect of BitRail, a blockchain-backed infrastructure that enables organizations and e-commerce platforms to operate regulatory compliant cryptocurrencies for payments in accordance with state money transmitter laws and FinCEN. The product recently signed on one of the world’s largest e-commerce marketplaces that process over $600 million dollars worth of transactions per year with over 4.5 million registered users that will be issued a cryptocurrency wallet, making it one of the most widely accepted cryptocurrency platforms in the world. Michael also has a B.S. in Applied Math & Computer Science from the University of Russia and 15+ years of experience as an avid coder and software engineer for multiple industries, including building blockchain-based products for energy, finance, and healthcare. Michael is also one of the few visionaries that invested in Ethereum when it had a presale in 2014.


Sanjeev Verma, PhD — Chief Scientist

Sanjeev serves as the Chief Scientist of Vera Protocol. Coming from Nokia and Samsung, amongst other Fortune 500 companies, Sanjeev held leadership positions on their Research and Development and Embedded Systems Security teams. He brings with him 18+ years of experience, having graduated from University of Toronto with a doctorate degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. He has 12 granted U.S. patents and eight that are currently pending. Previously, Sanjeev was one of the key contributors of Samsung Knox, a special security layer found in Samsung smartphones that provides secure data storage backed by hardware. Earlier this year, Samsung launched its top-tier smartphone Galaxy S10 preloaded with a cryptocurrency wallet which uses Knox to store users’ private keys. Samsung is the largest phone manufacturer to unveil a blockchain feature in a phone to date, and unlike either of its competitors, may see the widest distribution. Sanjeev’s domain expertise is in IoT, integrated circuits and semiconductors, cybersecurity, and distributed systems. Currently, his research focus is on finding creative applications of blockchain technology in the real-world. He is currently a Blockchain Mentor/Advisor in Data-X project at UC Berkeley and the Principle Hardware/Software Security Architect for AMD.


Danny Yang, PhD — Chief Data Scientist

Danny serves as the Chief Data Scientist of Vera Protocol and will lead our efforts to optimize the value of real-world and smart tags data processed by Vera. Vera Protocol strives to not only enable the existence of decentralized commerce applications, but to ensure they also thrive competitively against their centralized counterparts; therefore, it’s important we have a seasoned data expert on our team that will help Vera design strategies to increase business sales and create unique customer experiences for all partners of the Vera ecosystem. Previously, Danny has founded several companies innovating on blockchain and AI. He is the CEO and Founder of Blockseer, a blockchain analytics company that specializes in data analysis and anti-money laundering (AML) for digital currencies. He is also the founder of Maicoin, a pioneering cryptocurrency exchange and merchant services platform based in Taiwan. Danny also founded ScoreData and Seravia, both data science companies, and before that was an early employee at Like.com, a computer vision company later acquired by Google. Danny has a BA in Chemistry and Physics from Harvard, and a PhD in Computer Science from Stanford.

Here’s a list of positions that we are currently hiring for:

Embedded Systems Engineer

We are looking for an embedded software engineer to join us to build secure and efficient embedded software for a wide range of smart devices in RFID and Internet of Things (IoT) systems and enable the seamless integration of these systems to the Vera protocol. You will work at all levels of the embedded software stack, including drivers, middleware, libraries, and applications; You will define and architect embedded software systems, including capturing requirements and creating supporting design documentation.

Requirements:

  • Master’s or PhD in electrical and computer engineering, computer science, software engineering, or related fields.
  • 3+ years of embedded software development experience in C and C++, with a strong sense of responsibility and ownership.
  • Proven record of designing and delivering software security systems for internet-connected embedded devices.
  • Proven experience in embedded systems design with preemptive, multitasking real-time operating systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of OS coding techniques, IP protocols, interfaces, device drivers, and hardware subsystems.
  • Knowledgeable of embedded defensive and secure coding practices.

Bonus:

  • Experience in IoT standards and communication protocols.
  • Experience in creating PCB schematic and layout and building embedded system prototypes.
  • Experience with debugging tools and methods for embedded targets.
  • Experience in incorporating hardware-based security techniques (Hardware security modules, Intel SGX, TrustZone, Secure Boot, etc.) into a robust hardware/software system design.
  • Experience in creating, presenting, and refining clear, compelling technical specifications from top-level system architecture documents down to low-level implementation guides and test plan.
  • Sound knowledge of cryptography and embedded security fundamentals.

Rust Blockchain Engineer

We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented software engineer fluent in Rust to join us. You will be responsible for the development of the Vera blockchain platform, build necessary tools and processes, deliver and maintain stable product binaries.

  • 3+ years of experience with software development with a strong sense of responsibility and ownership.
  • Proficient in Rust.
  • Understand scalability challenges and solutions; understand Internet concepts, protocols, and technologies.
  • Passion for innovation. You should be a person who thrives on creating innovative and scalable technology applications without always requiring instruction.
  • Desire to continuously learn, problem-solve and acquire new skills with cutting-edge technology.

Bonus:

  • Experience with cryptocurrency and blockchain (use cases, software daemons, wallet infrastructure and anything related to this evolving field).
  • Any experience or understanding using Ethereum, smart contracts and Solidity.
  • Experience with an early-stage startup and ability to serve cross-functional roles in a young company; strong presentation and communication skills.
  • Good experience writing concise, clear, and detailed engineering documentation.

Cryptography Engineer

We are looking for a cryptography engineer to work on various aspects of Vera’s blockchain technologies, with emphasis on the design, analysis and implementation of innovative and efficient cryptographic algorithms and protocols that improve on the scalability, security and privacy of existing blockchain methodologies and pave the way for securing a wide range of Internet of Things (IoT) applications with Vera protocol.

Requirements:

  • Master’s or PhD in cryptography, mathematics, computer science, or related fields
  • Solid background in cryptographic algorithms and protocols such as elliptic curve cryptography, digital signature, commitment scheme, zero-knowledge proof, secure multiparty computation, etc.
  • Experience designing novel cryptographic primitives and protocols
  • Experience drafting and validating security specification and proofs.
  • Experience implementing cryptographic primitives and protocols in various platforms using C/C++, Golang, Rust or Python.

Bonus:

  • Experience with cryptocurrency and blockchain (use cases, software daemons, wallet infrastructure and anything related to this evolving field).
  • Any experience or understanding using Ethereum, smart contracts and Solidity.
  • Security and privacy for distributed systems.
  • Security and privacy for various IoT systems (e.g., wireless sensor networks, RFID systems, smart grid, vehicular ad-hoc networks, etc.)
