Leading up to and during the Verasity Token Sale scammers may try to steal your cryptocurrency and personal information.

Already there have been scammers impersonating a Verasity team member (using a fake Telegram account) offering up discounts on the Verasity Token Sale.

We have put together this article to talk about the various types of scams you may encounter and how to avoid them.

Please remember though it is up to YOU to make sure you don’t get scammed — be cautious and always check and double check information.

If you are unsure if you are talking to someone from our team, always email support@verasity.io. Verasity will never ask for payments, ETH, BTC or your personal details via telegram!

Exchange scams

We’ve noticed some fake VRA Tokens being listed on Etherscan. These can be used to lure people into thinking that VRA Tokens are currently tradable.

Official VRA Tokens are not live on any exchanges at the moment. And they will not be tradable until Verasity triggers the enablement of VRA tokens in wallets. Once this is done holders will then be able to send them to exchanges, another ERC-20 wallet, or spend them on the platform.

Impersonation scams

Telegram is full of scammers who are going to try and steal your cryptocurrency. A popular scam is to try and get you to send funds before an ICO opens to a wallet address. These people create email addresses that resemble official Verasity email addresses or set up Telegram profiles that look extremely similar to our moderators/admins, the main Verasity account, or Verasity team members.

These scammers will message you directly asking if you are interested in participating in either the private sale or public token sale at a discount. They’ll likely keep increasing the discount until you send funds to their wallet address.

Verasity will never ask for payments, ETH, BTC or your personal details via telegram!

During Token Sales fake scam accounts will also often pose as admins and post wallet addresses in the main chat saying the token sale wallet address has changed. They may even message you privately with a non-official contribution address.

Here is an example of a scammer. As you can see they’ve copied Scott Brown’s account but they’ve missed out the “r” in “Brown” in the username.

How to avoid Impersonation scams

  1. Verasity will NEVER give you a wallet address on Telegram/social media and ask you to send funds to it — DO NOT DO IT!
  2. Only participate in the Verasity Token Sale whilst logged in at https://verasity.io/sale/sign-up
  3. Never send funds to any wallet address you see posted on Telegram or social media.
  4. The ONLY telegram user allowed to discuss private sale terms is: @verabuy (Please check the @ symbol and every single character - any deviation from this is not an official Verasity account).
  5. If you are unsure, email: support@verasity.io

BTC deposit address is: 1G3BeAwXwK*********geezJzYnFNa7Gmd

These are the ONLY official payment addresses for Verasity. Do not send money to any other address. You can confirm these addresses at the bottom of the Verasity website: https://verasity.io

For Private sale, the full address will be sent via email but ALL characters other than the “*********” should match.

For Public sale, the full address will be shown when you complete all the whitelist steps at https://tokensale.verasity.io.

Giveaway scams

These are most frequent on social media — especially Telegram and Twitter. The scammer creates an account with a name that’s almost identical to that of a team member or brand account such as Verasity. They then claim to be doing a giveaway and try to trick people into sending Ethereum or their private key.

Here’s an example of this scam — do not fall for it!

How to avoid Giveaway Scams

  1. The only official verasity social accounts are listed on https://verasity.io. No other account is an official verasity account.
  2. Verasity is not doing any giveaways at the moment so do not engage with the scammers.
  3. Do not reply to unsolicited requests to send cryptocurrency. Never send anyone your private wallet key.
  4. Don’t trust social influencers, brands, or crypto figureheads who are offering free crypto from their own accounts as they themselves could have been compromised.

Legitimate giveaways or airdrops will not ask you to send any funds to anyone or ask for private keys. Verasity will NEVER ask you to do this.

Phishing scams

In a phishing scam, scammers may post links in the Verasity Telegram group or on social media that takes you to a website that looks identical to the official Verasity website.

You may then be prompted to log in using your credentials which will be compromised from that point onwards. You may even be prompted to give up the private key to your wallet.

The information you provide will then be used to take control of your funds.

Scammers may also attempt to send you emails that look like they come from Verasity. They may say your account has been breached and ask you to log in to a fake website or to reset your password.

How to avoid Phishing Scams

  1. Bookmark https://verasity.io and https://verasity.io/sale/sign-in and only access Verasity websites through these bookmarks.
  2. Double check you are logging into https://verasity.io/sale/sign-in and check the SSL security certificate by clicking the padlock near the address bar in your browser.
  3. Double check the website you are on is secure and the address starts with “https”. Verasity’s website will always be “https” enabled.
  4. If you receive a support email from Verasity saying you should change your password contact support@verasity.io before doing anything else.

Please stay vigilant during this time and if you ever have any queries please contact an admin on Telegram (they will have the grey “admin” tag next to their name) or email support@verasity.io.
