How much do you value your personal data? Now we know that’s a pretty big question. You might value your privacy and not want companies around the world to know with a decent level of probability what you’re going to have for dinner tonight. You might also value your personal data in a monetary sense, why should people be making money off it and not you?

Your age, gender, location, purchase history, and browsing history is critical for the digital advertising industry and they generate billions of dollars per year off it. It’s hard to pin down how much our data is worth as it very much depends on who you are, where you live, and what you do. However, what’s certain is that you’re valuable, companies like Google and Facebook have tried their hardest to develop new ways of tracking you and making it as difficult as possible to work out what data you’re giving up or where it’s going. The recent Cambridge Analytica scandal saw up to 87 million people’s data being harvested and abused when a third-party app developer took it for their own means.
