Verdigris Named to CB Insights “AI 100” List

We’re excited to announce that today, CB Insights named Verdigris Technologies to the prestigious Artificial Intelligence 100 list (“AI 100”), a select group of emerging private companies working on groundbreaking artificial intelligence technology. The winners were revealed during The Innovation Summit, a gathering of 400 top executives and investors to explore the industries of the future. Verdigris was one of just four companies recognized in the Industrial Internet of Things category.

We are proud to have our team recognized among the leading companies creating a sustainable future through artificial intelligence. We see first-hand every day from our customers how AI is improving automated demand management, and we are excited to be innovating the next generation of smart, connected, energy-efficient buildings.

The CB Insights research team selected the AI 100 winners based on a combination of data submitted by the companies, responses to interview questions, and the company’s Mosaic Score. Mosaic is an algorithm built with funding from the National Science Foundation that gives predictive intelligence into the health of private companies.

“The companies in the AI 100 are accelerating research, improving efficiency, and making many game-changing advancements that will be felt for decades to come,” CB Insights CEO and co-founder Anand Sanwal said.

Verdigris’ patented artificial intelligence platform and sensors transform large, mission critical facilities into living environments. Our artificial intelligence and IoT platform makes buildings smarter and more connected, while reducing energy consumption and costs. Each Verdigris sensor wirelessly streams thousands of samples per second from a building’s electrical panel to the cloud. From there, our AI then analyzes these electrical “fingerprints” to automatically optimize building controls, predict future breakdowns, and send users critical notifications about energy use. By analyzing this continuous stream of energy data, Verdigris drives smarter and more responsive building operations, saving customers tens of thousands to millions of dollars annually on energy and operational costs.

Some Quick facts on the AI 100:

  • In total, these 100 emerging private companies from 11 countries have raised $3.8B across 263 deals since 2012, according to CB Insights.
  • Applications of their technology include breakthroughs in healthcare, drug discovery, business intelligence, gaming, manufacturing, and much more.
  • More than 1,650 companies were nominated or applied for the AI 100 (only 6% were selected).
  • Our Series A investor Data Collective has backed the most — 14 — of the AI 100 companies, while NEA backed 8 and Bloomberg Beta backed 7.
  • There have been 9 mega-rounds (funding rounds of $100M or more) to AI 100 companies since 2014.
  • Five AI 100 companies have reached a valuation of $1B or more (also known as “unicorn” status — we’re not one of them, yet!)

About CB Insights
CB Insights builds technology that helps corporations guess less and win more. They aggregate and analyze massive amounts of data and use machine learning, algorithms and data visualization to help corporations answer massive strategic questions using probability not punditry. With backing from the National Science Foundation and venture capital investors, they mine terabytes of data and knowledge contained in patents, venture capital financings, M&A transactions, hiring, startup and investor websites, news sentiment, social media chatter, and more. Their software algorithmically analyzes this data to help our clients see where the world is going tomorrow, today. They also publish a great daily newsletter, which you can sign up for here.
