Verge Currencies (XVG) New Branding
From minor altcoin to mass market gamechanger.

For a long time since the birth of Verge Currency, branding was not a top priority unlike tech. Since then, Verge Currency has evolved into a mass market player, where branding cannot be neglected anymore.
With Verge’s new branding guide, we open the approach towards mass adoption, and to create an iconic, recognizable and memorable brand. Verge is an open-source project. Just as our code is open to the world, likewise our branding should be. Our new branding is an essential tool for everyone who wants to help with the outreach of Verge Currency, and for Verge Currency to establish a brand identity. Not because we want to look as a company, we’re not, but because a recognized brand is one step closer to mass adoption, which is our ultimate goal.
With our new identity also follows a branding guide that is published to help contributors understand our brand identity, visual aesthetics, branding direction, and ensures all messaging revolve around our vision.
DogeCoinDark to Verge Currency
It is no secret that Verge Currency was previously named DogeCoinDark. The coin was created in 2014 and was later renamed in the beginning of 2016. DogeCoinDark was renamed with emphasis and focus for mass market in mind, and we wanted to be taken more seriously, since we were always associated with DogeCoin although they had nothing to do with each other.
No. Verge Currency or DogeCoinDark is not a fork of Dogecoin. We just happend to share the same name of a popular internet dog.
Before the renaming, we had made a votation for a new name and Verge Currency was voted on by our community in our IRC chat. The name was good, exciting and simple.

Why is a Brand Guideline important for a Crypto Currency?
Cryptocurrencies are booming, and in a few years, blockchain will be eminent for many industries. Every now and then, you hear of a new coin or ICO. Every cryptocurrency wants preserve its presence, and likewise for Verge Currency. This can be greatly achieved by preserving an iconic brand that is easy to remember and recognize.
For an open-source project like Verge, everyone should be able to contribute. Just as we have a documentation for the coding guidelines, the same should apply for our branding identity.
The Branding Guide was initially made when we saw a lot of our community members, who contributed and created Verge info websites, infographics, videos and much more. We are grateful to have such a great community and so we created a guideline to guide them into our new identity, so all Verge Currency material can preserve a common thread.
The Verge Currency Logo
Together with our new website that was launched in late march, we also redesigned the logo. Using the same font family, Avenir Next, we’ve chosen a thicker and bolder version to make the logo more prominent. There was hardly any harmony between the icon and the font in the previous version of the logo, which was the focuspoint for the new logo.

We also kept the sharp V in VERGE to reflect the same shape as the icon. The icon on the new version has been untouched with the exception of making the spacing between the triangles slightly bigger.
With all brand guides, comes a Do and Don’t list. Of course we have ours aswell — and it should be pretty obvious.
Don’t do this! ↓

Colors
With the new logo, we introduced a variety of new colors. These are the colors that also formed the new website.

Avenir Next Font
The Avenir Next font is a very popular font also used by large corporations and brands. It was designed by Adrian Frutiger together with Akira Kobayashi. The font is loved by its users for the simplicity and sleekness. Avenir means “Future” in french.
The Avenir Next font was also used on the previous website and logo.

The Official font for Verge Currency is Avenir Next. Avenir Next is used throughout our Website and on all our graphic material. We are using the following styles within the Avenir Next Typeface Family. Italic styles are also being used. Avenir Next is both used for content text and titles.
Miscancellous
No Cryptocurrency without a coin design. We also created that with the new brand of course!

Our upcoming iOS app is also spiced with our new branding styles. Stay tuned as we will soon update you regarding the iOS wallet.

“I still see that there are things that doesn’t match your new branding styles?”
