It all started in 2014 when Justin Vendetta realized a bunch of ‘altcoins’ were being created, but that none of them truly solved the concept of a functional digital currency. Justin and a few other enthusiasts, then decided to develop a new digital currency to see what could be done.
The idea they developed is a decentralized and open source digital currency designed for users who value speed, security and transactional privacy. It improves upon the original Bitcoin blockchain by using multiple anonymity-centric networks such as TOR and I2P. It utilizes multi-algorithm mining support to improve security and provide equal distribution of coins to the miners.

The Verge community proceeded to name themselves VergeFam as it clearly represents the concept of a family. Sometimes funny, sometimes crazy but always a very dedicated and a supportive family. We all share the same vision, the same goal — that everyone deserves the right to have access to financial privacy and freedom of choice in doing so.
It has been one year now since I first invested in Verge. I had been reading about crypto for weeks at that time and had found an article about Verge. The first impression was ‘Wow! Verge is the vision of Satoshi Nakamoto!’. I then decided to join their Telegram group and see what Verge was truly all about. At this time, Verge became a part of me.
Justin’s vision, CryptoRekt’s passion and a very helpful VergeFam made me realize what is the true power of Verge — the people. There is an amazing technology behind the project and it’s all backed by the most dedicated community the crypto world has ever seen. I’ve met so many likeminded individuals and we eventually became friends, we became a family. The growth of the community was incredible, the Telegram group had around 3,000 members one year ago and just a couple of months later there were over 35,000 members in the group. Twitter, Discord, Facebook and other various groups on social networks have grown simultaneously. Such a huge growth on social networks in a short time span required true dedication from administrators and moderators across all platforms, especially the Telegram admins and Discord mods, where most of the new members first join and ask their questions. They are doing a remarkable job and volunteer for Verge 24/7.
International channel has not been the only one with such rapid growth. Local communities from all over the world have been following the trend. Our largest local community is in The Netherlands. They organized the first international Verge Meet-Up in Amsterdam on June 9th, 2018 where the VergeFam finally had a chance to meet likeminded people in person and enjoy their time by exploring Amsterdam.
VergeFam has initiated and formed a lot of smaller purpose dedicated groups like XVG Special Forces, XVG Vendor Outreach, XVG Army and many others where they dedicate their free time for the benefit of Verge Currency and its goal — mass adoption.
Powered by the VergeFam, Verge Currency has made further steps at becoming something much larger than just being a digital currency; it has become a global movement. Driven by likeminded individuals who value transactional privacy and top notch technology, and fueled by strong passion that drives them towards mass adoption of digital currencies.

REAL WORLD USAGE
Real world use and vendor adoption has already started. Verge Currency partnered with MindGeek, a company that owns 85% of the world adult entertainment websites, and is paving the way for mass adoption use cases for cryptocurrencies. MindGeek approached us because of the power of our amazing community.
Since then, the number of known vendors that accept Verge Currency as a means of payment has rapidly increased.
