The Tennessee Titans take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in the AFC Conference Championship Game on Sunday and the bookmakers peg the Chiefs as -7 point home favorites. Tennessee took down the #1 seed Baltimore Ravens 28–12 in a dominant road victory last weekend as +10 point road dogs. Kansas City fought back from after falling behind 24–0, before rallying for a big 51–31 statement victory. Can Tennessee take down the Super Bowl favorites in Kansas City?
Derrick Henry and the Tennessee Titans rushing offense are the most feared unit in the NFL Playoffs. The Titans lead the Playoff teams with over 209 rushing yards per game and it’s the sole focus offensively. QB Ryan Tannehill has not been asked to do much and he has thrown for under 100 yards in two straight victories as underdogs. Henry already showed the Chiefs how tough he is to bring down, rushing for 188 yards in a Week 10 win 35–32.
The Chiefs will counter Henry with their MVP QB Patrick Mahomes and a potent offense which produces 434 yards per game, 316 passing yards and 41 points per game in the Playoffs. The Chiefs needn’t rely on one source of firepower, as they have a ton of different weapons upon which they can rely. One area of concern for the Chiefs is their run defense which allowed 128 rushing yards per game this season ranking them 26th in the league but they have played better in the postseason. The Chiefs will do everything in their power to make this a shootout and pray that Derrick Henry wears down.
Which defense will step up and make the big play? Tennessee’s defense was impressive last week vs. Baltimore and completely set the tempo in that game against an offense as equally as impressive as Kansas City. Tennessee will once again make this the Derrick Henry show and until a team can stop him they will continue to feed him the ball. The run game will dictate the pace for Tennessee and their momentum should not be faded. I’ll back the Titans +7 on the road and look for another road upset victory.
