Boston Celtics vs Toronto Raptors Free NBA Pick, 2/24/2017
Boston Celtics (37–20) vs Toronto Raptors (33–24)
The Boston Celtics have played some of the best basketball in the NBA the past month. Since December 15th, the Celtics have gone (24–8 SU) (17–15 ATS) and stand 3 games behind the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. Their recent success is part of the reason why they didn’t make any moves before the trade deadline. Adding pieces to a winning formula is not always a recipe for success.
Toronto was a different position than the Celtics. The Raptors went (4–6 SU) the previous 10 games prior to the All Star break which showed they may need some help to improve the chemistry. The Raptors have needed defensive help so they traded for veteran forwards Serge Ibaka, who came from Orlando prior to the All-Star break, and P.J. Tucker, acquired from Phoenix. Ibaka is a solid defender and should help bolster this Raptors defense.
Boston is lead by G Isaiah Thomas who averages 29.9 points and 6.3 assists per game. This team will goes as far as Thomas takes them and when he is on this team has a chance of winning. As a team, Boston has averaged 108 PPG which ranks them 6th in the NBA and they allowed 105.6 PPG which ranks them 16th. The Celtics have played good on the road. They come into this game with a record of 17–12 away from home.
This is perhaps the biggest game of the season for the Raptors. They are currently 4 games behind the Celtics in the Atlantic Division. The Toronto Raptors are averaging 108.5 points per game and are lead by DeMar DeRozan is averaging 27.3 points and 5.3 rebounds while Kyle Lowry is averaging 22.8 points and 6.9 assists.
Boston is 15–6–2 ATS their last 23 road games while Toronto is 1–4 ATS their last 5 home games. Toronto should come out motivated but it may take some time to adjust to the new additions. I like the way Boston is playing and it’s tough to pass on +3 points.
