The Chicago Cubs and Colorado Rockies will kick off a three-game series in Denver Friday night at 8:40 pm EST. The Cubs have struggled a bit out of the gate this season and they have played .500 ball the last 10 games. Colorado lost their last game vs the Pirates but they won the series and the Rockies have won 6 out of their last 10 games.

Chicago will give the start to Kyle Hendricks (0–1) for his third start of the season. Hendrick is has a 3.71 ERA, a 1.471 WHIP, seven walks and 13 strikeouts over 14.1 innings of work this season. Hendricks will make his 7th career start vs the Rockies and he is (1–2, 4.04 ERA) overall and (1–1) with a 3.28 ERA in four career starts at Coors Field. The Cubs are 0–4 in Hendricks’ last four starts and are 1–4 in his last five outings versus National League West rivals.

Colorado returns home after a successful (5–2) East Coast trip to Washington and Pittsburgh. The Rockies have played well on the road going (9–5) compared to just (2–4) at Coors Field. The Rockies send Jon Gray to the bump to face the visiting Cubs on Friday night. Gray comes off of a 6–2 loss at Washington where he was charged with five runs on eight hits through 5.2 innings. Gray has made only 63 MLB starts but he is 12–5 with a 4.75 ERA, a 1.307 WHIP, 38 walks and 156 strikeouts over 155.1 innings in 28 career starts at Coors Field.

It’s just a matter of time before the Cubs begin to heat up and Anthony Rizzo has returned to the lineup which will be a big boost to their offensive production.
