NBA Odds: Celtics +4, 219.5
The Eastern Conference Finals tips off tonight in TD Garden as the Cleveland Cavaliers take on the Boston Celtics. If you thought the Cavaliers may have coasted towards the end of the regular season to rest up for the Playoffs, you may be right.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been scorching hot in the playoffs with eight straight victories after sweeping the Indiana Pacers and Toronto Raptors. The defending NBA Champions have looked like the cream of the crop in the East and they may be ready to take on the #1 seed in the East, the Boston Celtics.
The Cavaliers opened as -3 point road favorites for Game 1 and the public jumped on the Cavaliers forcing the books to bump up the spread to -4 points. The Total currently rests at 219.5.
Cleveland over powered both Indiana and Toronto and one player in particular, Kevin Love, wasn’t involved too much scoring 13.8 points and 9.1 rebounds during the first two rounds. However, in order for the Cavaliers to repeat as Champions they will need to get Love involved in this offense and it starts in Boston. During the regular season, Love averaged 23.7 points and 13 rebounds in three games against the Celtics this season. LeBron James will need to get each and every player involved in this series and figure out a way to stop Isaiah Thomas.
Cavaliers Betting Trends
- Cavaliers are 5–0–1 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up win
- Cavaliers are 4–0–1 ATS in their last 5 road games
- Cavaliers are 4–1 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Boston
The Boston Celtics head to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2012 after winning Game 7 over the Washington Wizards. The Celtics had to fight through 7 tough games and it could be physically and mentally demanding to bounce back for another high intensity game after two days. This is certainly an area of concern for the Celtics and it’s natural to question whether they will have fresh legs after a physically demanding seven game series.
Isaiah Thomas has carried Boston through the Playoffs and is averaging 25.4 points in the postseason. Thomas had 29 points, 12 assists and just two turnovers in the Game 7 win over the Wizards and has four 30-point outings in the Playoffs.
The Celtics will need a strong performance from their bench in this series. When Cleveland is firing on all cylinders they can score at will and Boston will need to play stellar defense to stop the best player in the world.
Celtics Betting Trends
- Celtics are 4–0 ATS in their last 4 vs. NBA Central
- Celtics are 7–1 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS win
- Celtics are 9–2 ATS in their last 11 vs. Eastern Conference
Cavaliers vs Celtics Spread Pick
Typically a team coming off a 10-day break is a cause for concern. However, the Celtics had two days to rest after a demanding 7 game series vs the Wizards. I suspect that adrenaline may get them through the first half but you have to wonder if fatigue sets in at some point? Playing at home certainly helps and the Cavalier may need some time to get back into game tempo. However, in the end, I don’t see how the Celtics stop a fresh Cavaliers team in Game 1. The Cavaliers have too many weapons and the best player in the world. Look for the Cavaliers to cover the -4 point spread and win Game 1.
