Time: Saturday, September 8th, 3:30 PM EST
Current Odds: Nebraska -3.5, 64
The Colorado Buffaloes and Nebraska Cornhuskers will renew their rivalry on Saturday in Lincoln, Nebraska. For a 15-year stretch from 1996 to 2010, Nebraska ended its regular season on Black Friday with a rivalry game against Colorado before the Buffaloes split for the Pac 12 and Nebraska went to the Big 10.
The Buffaloes began their season in dominant fashion last weekend, piling up 596 total yards in a 45–13rout of Colorado State. Nebraska’s game vs Akron was canceled due to weather. This will be Scott Frost’s first official game as the head coach of his alma mater after turning around a struggling UCF program in just two seasons.

Colorado handled their in-state rival, Colorado State, with ease last Friday. The Buffaloes dominated on both sides of the football en route to a 45–13 victory that was highlighted by a strong performance by junior quarterback Steven Montez. Montez completed 22-of-25 passes for 338 yards and four TDs against CSU, while Virginia Tech graduate transfer Travon McMillian became only the eighth Colorado player to run for at least 100 yards in his debut (103).
Not only will it be Scott Frost’s first game as head coach of Nebraska but the Cornhuskers will also be starting Adrian Martinez, the first true freshman to start opening week at quarterback in school history. Martinez will have some weapons at his disposal as the team returns 13 starters, including six on the offensive side of the ball. Frost will bring a similar style offense and defense he ran at UCF so expect an up-tempo style offense that will wear down defenses.
Colorado has a slight advantage after playing last week. Nebraska will also need to work out the jitters with a freshman quarterback and new head coach. With that being said, the crowd in Lincoln will be fired up to kick off the football season against Colorado. This game could turn into a track meet as both teams have skill position players that will impact this game. I expect a lot of points in this matchup which is why the Over 64 is a play in my book. I don’t think either defense will be able to make stops so take the Over in this matchup.
