A Mountain West Conference matchup enters the spotlight on Friday night as the Colorado State Rams head to New Mexico to battle the Lobos. The Rams edged Nevada 42–40 last weekend, and the Lobos were blanked 38–0 by Fresno in their latest action. Colorado State defeated New Mexico by a 49–31 score last season.
Colorado State’s Nick Stevens-to-Michael Gallup connection is one of the most lethal quarterback-receiver combinations in the country. The senior quarterback is having a tremendous year, accumulating 2255 passing yards with an 18:6 TD to INT ratio. Gallup has been unstoppable this season, leading the nation with 948 receiving yards.
The New Mexico Lobos are hoping to pull an upset when the Colorado State Rams in week eight. One way to limit the damage Colorado State can do through the air is to limit their possessions. The Lobos can do that by leaning on their solid rushing attack to shorten the game. Freshman QB Tevaka Tuioti started last week in the loss but the Lobos may go back to Coltin Gerhart at QB in this one. This quarterback situation is a bit concerning if you’re backing the Lobos.
Final Analysis: New Mexico is having trouble stopping the pass and that is a bad situation when you face a team that averages 323 passing yards per game. The Rams have upperclassman in key positions on offense such as QB, WR, and RB which will make a huge difference in conference games. In the end, the Lobos will have trouble keeping up with the Rams and Colorado State will pull away with an easy win.
