The Dallas Cowboys will aim for four straight wins Sunday afternoon vs the Atlanta Falcons but they will have to do so with star running back, Ezekiel Elliott. Elliott’s six-game suspension was upheld but he will have another chance to appeal after serving four games. The Falcons have lost four of their last five games.
The Dallas Cowboys come into this game off a huge win over the Kansas City Chiefs, but that won’t be the talking point as the team will shift their focus to running their offense without Ezekiel Elliott. Elliott was 2nd in the NFL with 783 rushing yards and 2nd in the NFL with 9 touchdowns. It’s a huge blow to this Dallas team as they struggle to keep pace with the 1st place Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East. If they keep winning they certainly have a shot at the Wild Card, and/or the division considering they still have two games vs the Eagles.
The defensive side of the ball hasn’t been terrible, but it also hasn’t been very good. They are currently giving up 22.2 points per game which is 15th in the NFL. They face a struggling Falcons offense that is a shell of the 2016 NFC Champion team. Regardless, if you give Matt Ryan enough time, he will carve you up. Atlanta averages just 21.2 PPG down from 33.8 PPG just last season. Atlanta has lost four of five with their lone win coming over the Jets, 25–20. The Falcons defense is allowing 115 rushing yards per game but they won’t have to gameplan for Ezekiel which should allow them to focus more on Dallas quarterback, Dak Prescott.
Dallas will be without their leading rusher and their top receiver, Dez Bryant, is dealing with knee and ankle injuries. The Falcons are dealing with injuries on their offense as well as Julio Jones is dealing with a leg injury and Devonta Freeman has a banged up shoulder. I think it will be a work in progress for the Cowboys dealing with the loss of Elliott and think the public may blindly bet the Over in this matchup but the smart money is taking the Under 48.5. I see this turning into a relatively low scoring affair that will cash on the Under.
