Dallas Cowboys vs San Francisco 49ers
Saturday, August 10, 2019, 4:05 PM EST
Line: San Francisco 49ers -4.5, O/U 36
Pick: San Francisco 49ers -4.5
The Dallas Cowboys will kick off their 2019 preseason on the road against the San Francisco 49ers Saturday night from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA. Dallas won the NFC East with a 10–6 record last season, while the 49ers finished third in the NFC West with a 4–12 record.
Ezekiel Elliot’s hold out has created some drama in Dallas as the Cowboys and the All-Pro running back have yet to agree to contract negotiations. While Elliot would most likely sit in the first preseason game, the team is embarking on an important season in the NFC East as they aim to repeat as NFC East champions. Last season the Cowboys averaged 21.2 PPG, ranking them 22nd in the NFL, while the Cowboys defense held opponents to 20.3 points, good for sixth overall. The Cowboys went 0–4 in last year’s preseason.
San Francisco should have renewed optimism with QB QB Jimmy Garoppolo returning under center for the 49ers. The 49ers have drafted well selecting Nick Bosa with the #2 pick in the NFL Draft and also rolling out a pair of rookie wide receiver in Samuel Deebo and Halen Hurt. C.J. Beathard and Nick Mullins will battle for the backup quarterback position and both will see time in Saturday’s preseason opener. The 49ers scored an average of 21.4 PPG in 2018 ranking them 21st overall. Defensively, the 49ers allowed an average of 27.2 PPG ranking them 28th in the NFL. The 49ers recorded a 1–3 mark in last year’s preseason play.
The first preseason game will come down to the battle of the back ups. Most starters on both sides will see limited action but the 49ers have a solid quarterback backup battle which should yield some points during their competition. Siding with the home team in this matchup and I will lay the -4.5 points with the San Francisco 49ers.
