The Denver Nuggets fresh off the All Star break head to Sacramento to take on the Kings. Sacramento’s starting line up will look a bit different after trading away their franchise player, DeMarcus Cousins to New Orleans this past week. It remains to be seen whether Denver will trade away two of their leading scorers before tip, Wilson Chandler or Danilo Gallinari.
Denver C Nikola Joka is having a breakout season. The Serbian center is averaging career-highs in points (16.3), rebounds (9.0) and assists (4.3) and while he is one of the top scorers on offense, he may be the man if Denver seeks out trades.
The Nuggets will need to do something about their defense if they want to nab the 8th playoff spot in the West. Denver ranks 28th in the league allowing 111 PPG but the good news for the Nuggets is they don’t have to stop DeMarcus Cousins.
Sacramento is now in a complete rebuild after trading away their franchise player. Cousins averaged just shy of 30 PPG and was the focal point of their offense, which raises the question as to where the offense will come from without Cousins? Most likely Darren Collison and Rudy Gay will supplement as best as they can for the time being but they lose a big man that rebounded and scored.
Head to head, the Nuggets are 0–4 ATS in the last four meetings but a dominant 7–2 ATS in the last nine meetings in Sacramento. The road team is 10–3 ATS in the last 13 meetings and the over is 14–3 in the last 17 meetings overall.
The Nuggets have been a little shorthanded over the last few games, but you can expect them to be nearly at full strength coming out of the All-Star break. It will take some time for Sacramento to get used to their team and I don’t see how they can cover tonight’s game. Denver has something to play for and a win puts them on the right path for the 2nd half of the season.
