Two Eastern Conference teams meet up in Orlando as the Magic host the Pistons Friday night. Current odds list the Detroit Pistons as -2.5 road favorites with the Total sitting around 213.5.
Detroit seemed to find the missing piece by trading for Blake Griffen before the trade deadline as the Pistons went on to win five straight with Griffen in the lineup. However, since the winning streak, Detroit has gone south losing six of their last eight games. The Pistons broke a three-game skid by beating Milwaukee on Wednesday, 110–87 and covering the -1 point spread.
The Pistons really need to get PG Reggie Jackson back in the line up to bolster the backcourt. Ish Smith has provided solid guard play in his absence but Reggie Jackson provides a nice boost offensively and defensively. Detroit has not played well on the road this season going (9–19) away from Detroit.
Orlando may not be playing for a playoff spot but they should be in the lottery considering they have one of the worst records in the NBA. Orlando is a middle of the pack offensive team, scoring 105.6 PPG but it’s their defense that has let them down this season which allows (110.2 PPG). Aaron Gordon and Evan Fournier lead this team with 18.0 PPG. The Magic have lost seven straight games and (3–4 ATS) over this span. Orlando is not a team that just rolls over as they do play hard and have played in some tight games in the recent weeks.
Most of the trends favor the Magic but after losing seven straight games, I find it difficult to back this Magic team. The Pistons have a distinct advantage on the boards and they understand they need to turn their season around now in order to work their way into the Playoff picture. I believe this team can build upon their win over the Bucks and I see them ready to play tonight in Orlando. I’ll lay the -2.5 points with Detroit and bank on this team exploiting the Magic’s horrendous defense.
