Atlanta Falcons

Matt Ryan will lead the Atlanta Falcons into Oakland to take on the Raiders. Atlanta lost in Week 1 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the Bucs racked up 371 yards of total offense and scored 31 points. Jameis Winston torched the Falcons secondary which is a big area of concern since rookie safety Keanu Neal went down with a knee injury in preseason.

Matt Ryan completed 27 of 39 passes for 334 yards and two touchdowns in the loss. He will need help from his defense if the Falcons expect to go into Oakland and come out with a win.

This is the 14th meeting between the two teams and the Raiders lead the all time series 7–6 but the Falcons have won the last 3 meetings.

One of the issues the Falcons displayed last week was their lack of a rushing attack. RB Tevin Coleman was the teams leading rusher with 8 carries for 22 yards. If the Raiders defensive secondary can eliminate the big plays to Julio Jones it may be a long day for Matt Ryan.

Oakland Raiders

Over on the Raiders’ side, Oakland is coming off a huge and gutsy victory in Week 1 against New Orleans, shocking the Saints at home 35–34. The Raiders made a gutsy call to go for a 2-point conversion and David Carr found Michael Crabtree for the go-ahead score with 47 seconds left. The Raiders overcame a 14-point second-half deficit to get the win here, and Carr would finish 24-of-38 for 319 yards and a TD.

Amari Cooper was the leading receiver in the game with six catches for 137 yards. Michael Crabtree would add seven receptions for 87 yards. On the ground, Jalen Richard provided some electricity with three carries for an impressive 84 yards.

The favorite is also 4–1 ATS in the last five meetings between the two teams. The Falcons offense was one dimensional in Week 1 which is a cause for concern. The Raiders have plenty of weapons on offense but like the Falcons, their defense is also suspect. Falcons WR Julio Jones was limited in practice Thursday due to ankle injury but is expected to play. That is also a cause for concern for the Falcons. The way I see it is there are too many question marks with the Falcons. I like where the Raiders are headed with the young talent they have around Derek Carr. There is a definite home field advantage playing in Oakland and I like the Raiders to cover the -4.5 point spread.
