Texas Tech Red Raiders (3–2) vs TCU Horned Frogs (3–2)

Date: October 11th, 2018
Game Time: 7:30 pm

NCAAF Odds: TCU -7, 64

A Thursday night, Texas state affair will pit the Texas Tech Red Raiders vs the TCU Horned Frogs in Fort Worth, TX. Both teams enter Thursday’s matchup off of a BYE week giving these teams extra time to heal from significant injuries. TCU (-7) is currently favored by a touchdown with the total listed at 64 points.

Texas Tech lost to West Virginia by 8 points in their last game before the BYE week. However, the Red Raiders lost more than just the game as their starting QB Alan Bowman suffered a collapsed lung and will be out for an undetermined amount of time. Backup QB Jett Duffy struggled a bit, throwing for 172 yards, 1 TD and 2 interceptions. With Bowman, Tech’s offense was ranked at the top of college football averaging 589 total yards and over 400 passing yards per game, while scoring 48.4 PPG. With Bowman on the sidelines, expect the Red Raiders offense to suffer a set back in offensive production.

TCU may not only be without QB Shawn Robinson in this game with a shoulder injury but, also wide receiver KaVontae Turpin is also dealing with an undisclosed injury and is probable for Thursday night. Our reports indicate Robinson may not start but he should see some action. TCU’s success has not been offensively but defensively. TCU is not ranked in the top 50 for any offensive stats but their defense currently ranks 12th in Total Yards (303.6). With QB Shawn Robinson banged up, you can expect this TCU offense to rely even more on their rushing attack which averages 188 rushing yards per game.

Both teams will enter this matchup with quarterback issues and other key players suffering injuries on the offensive side of the ball. While Texas Tech has other playmakers on offense, TCU’s defense has been their rock so far this season. The Horned Frogs are allowing opponents to score only 21 points per game while the pass/rush defense is ranked in the top 35 in the nation. I see both offenses struggling to put up points in the absence of some key players. I like TCU’s defense to tame this banged up Tech offense and will play the UNDER 64 on Thursday night.
