Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs. Boston College Eagles
Saturday, October 24, 2020, 4:00 PM EST
Line: Boston College -3, O/U 56.5
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (2–3) travel to Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill to take on the Boston College Eagles (3–2) for an ACC college football clash. Georgia Tech (2–3 ATS) enters Week 8 after getting throttled by Clemson 73–7 while failing to cover the +27 point spread. Boston College (3–2 ATS) also lost in Week 7 to Virginia Tech 40–14 as +13 point underdogs. Opening odds favor Boston College -3 over the visiting Yellow Jackets.
Georgia Tech is on the road after splitting a pair of home games in October. The Yellow Jackets are led offensively by QB Jeff Sims who has completed 53.8% of his passes for 1,025 yards, 6 TD & 9 INT while also rushing for 228 yards & 3 TD. The dual-threat freshman quarterbacks an offense that averages 22.0 PPG but a rushing attack that averages 195.6 yards per game, good for 22nd in the nation. The defense has struggled at times since allowing only 13 points in Week 1 they have surrendered 49, 37, 27, and 73 points. The Yellow Jackets secondary will be tested this week vs. a pass-heavy Eagles offense which ranks in the top 20 in passing yards.
Boston College suffered their second setback on the season last week on the road to Virginia Tech. The Eagles defense allowed 40 points their most all season but they have been rock solid for most of the season holding their opponents to 24.6 PPG. Offensively the Eagles are averaging 23.4 PPG but Boston College quarterback Phil Jurkovec (1526 yards, 10 TD, 4 INT) can air it out and is averaging 305 passing yards per game. BC will test the Yellow Jackets defense downfield and will only run on occasion as they average just 66.2 rushing yards per game. This team will lean on their defense to keep them in games and this week they will have some opportunities to put pressure on Georgia Tech’s freshman quarterback and force turnovers.
The Boston College Eagles are 20–6–1 ATS their last 27 conference games and 21–8 ATS their last 29 games in October. Georgia Tech is 5–15 ATS in their last 20 games overall and 1–8 ATS versus a team with a winning record. This presents a good matchup for the Boston College Eagles on their home turf. The Yellow Jackets could hang around in this game but ultimately they may experience some offensive and defensive troubles. Boston College isn’t an elite offense but they could exploit this Yellow Jackets secondary. Look for Boston College to cover the -3 point spread and pick up the victory by at least a touchdown.
