Guaranteed MLB Winner: Tampa Bay vs. Chicago White Sox — King Sports Picks
Last night’s Free Winner on the heavy underdog Brewers was the right side based on number of hits (10 total vs. 6 by Texas), but sometimes it’s just not meant to be. Firing back today with a 5 Unit Bet on Rays vs. White Sox guaranteed MLB winner.
Tampa Bay’s loss Monday was their fourth straight and seventh in their last eight games. Jaff Decker (run) led the Rays with three hits in the loss. Mikle Mahtook had two hits in the loss while Curt Casali drove in the lone Tampa Bay run in the fourth inning. The Rays’ bullpen gave up four runs over the last two innings to put the game out of reach. Drew Smyly took the loss and fell to 7–12 on the season. He threw five innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts in the contest. Tampa Bay bounced into four double plays in the loss.
Rookie Blake Snell takes the mound for his 19th start of the season for Tampa Bay. He is 6–8 with a 3.65 ERA and a 1.645 WHIP over 86.1 innings of work. Snell has 94 strikeouts but handed out 50 walks so far this year. He has two wins in his last six starts. He picked up the win in his last outing, which came against the Yankees last Thursday. Snell tossed five scoreless innings, allowing five hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Tampa Bay won the game, 2–0. Snell makes his first career start against the White Sox and at U.S. Cellular Field in this contest.
Chicago White Sox Try to Close Season Strong — Chicago had a six game losing skid but won their last three after Monday’s contest. Carlos Sanchez (run, two RBI), Omar Narvaez (run, RBI), Justin Morneau (run, three RBI) and Jose Abreu (run, RBI) each had two hits in the victory. Morneau (his 6th) and Sanchez (his 3rd) each homered in the game for Chicago. James Shields picked up a rare win and is now 4–11 since joining the White Sox earlier this year. He threw six innings, allowing one run on seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Four relievers combined for three scoreless frames.
Miguel Gonzalez is on the bump for his 24th appearance and 23rd start of the year for the White Sox. He is 4–8 with a 3.98 ERA and a 1.295 WHIP over 126.2 innings. Gonzalez has two wins in his last 10 starts. He missed time last month with a groin strain. Gonzalez took the loss in his last start, which came against the Indians Friday. He threw 4.1 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits with no walks and two strikeouts. The White Sox lost the game, 10–4. He makes his 16th career start against the Rays. Gonzalez is 6–4 with a 3.02 ERA and a 1.287 WHIP over 89.1 innings. He makes his 11th start of his career at U.S. Cellular Field. Gonzalez is 5–4 with a 4.10 ERA and a 1.315 WHIP over 59.1 innings.
Both teams are finishing out what can be disappointing seasons. The White Sox won their last three as they have a shot at finishing at the .500 mark with some luck. Tampa Bay lost four straight and seven of their last eight. The Rays struggle regardless of the venue and the opponent. If you can’t beat James Shields, who can you beat? He’s been the league’s whipping boy the last few months and the Rays managed a single run off him. I’m betting on quality starts for pitching continues in this one and should be an easy cover.
