Morneau (his 6th) and Sanchez (his 3rd) each homered in the game for Chicago. James Shields picked up a rare win and is now 4–11 since joining the White Sox earlier this year. He threw six innings, allowing one run on seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Four relievers combined for three scoreless frames.
Miguel Gonzalez is on the bump for his 24th appearance and 23rd start of the year for the White Sox. He is 4–8 with a 3.98 ERA and a 1.295 WHIP over 126.2 innings. Both teams are finishing out what can be disappointing seasons. The White Sox won their last three as they have a shot at finishing at the .500 mark with some luck. Tampa Bay lost four straight and seven of their last eight. The Rays struggle regardless of the venue and the opponent. If you can’t beat James Shields, who can you beat? He’s been the league’s whipping boy the last few months and the Rays managed a single run off him. I’m betting on quality starts for pitching continues in this one and should be an easy cover.
