Kansas City welcomed back QB Patrick Mahomes last week in a losing effort on the road in Tennesse, 35–32. The Chiefs defense allowed the Titans to rush for 188 yards and looked very sloppy and disinterested in the game. Kansas City has been defending the pass (221 yards per game) but they have struggled to stop the rush, allowing 148 rushing yards per game. The Chiefs are fifth in the league with 28.4 points per game and third overall with 404.7 total yards per contest.
The Chargers snapped a two-game win streak with a road loss to Oakland, 26–24. Los Angeles has been running the football well behind Melvin Gordon. After missing the first four games of the season in a contract dispute, Melvin Gordon has found his groove running for 108 yards vs. the Raiders and averaging 4.48 yards per carry in the last two games. Phillip Rivers will need better protection from his offensive line after getting sacked five times for a loss of 38 yards in the Raiders game. Offensively the Chargers may need to score more than their average of 20 PPG to hang with the Chiefs.

Who has the edge?
There is no home-field advantage with both teams playing on the road in a new stadium. Los Angeles has not done a good job protecting Phillip Rivers and that may not change this week. Kansas City’s offense has too many playmakers for the Chargers stout defense to slow down. Los Angeles should be able to run the ball on the Chiefs but in the end, the Chiefs are the better football team that will look toward Patrick Mahomes to lead the charge. Expect the Chiefs to pull ahead late in the game and cover the -4 point spread.
