Los Angeles Angels (0–1) vs.Oakland Athletics (1–0)
First Pitch: 10:05pm EST
The Line: Oakland -105, O/U 7.5
Game two of this four game opening series of the Los Angeles Angels vs the Oakland A’s. Tonight’s starting listed pitchers are Matt Shoemaker (R) for the Angels and Sean Manaea (L) for the Athletics. Last year Shoemaker was 9–13 with a 3.88 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP in 160 innings pitched while Manaea, in his rookie debut, was 7–9 with a 3.86 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP in 144.2 innings pitched.
The Los Angeles Angels hope to avoid an 0–2 start to the season for the third time in four years. LA lost the opening day game (4–2) after leaving 7 runners on base and totaling 11 strikeouts. The Angels had their chances but they failed to capitalize on their opportunities. Mike Trout and Yunel Escobar seem to be in midseason form with them combining for four hits and a home run.
Mike Trout heads into the 2017 season after winning his 2nd MVP last season. Trout hit .315 on the year, with 29 home runs and a 100 RBI’s.
The Under is 8–2 in LAA last 10 road games
Oakland hopes to play spoiler this season in the AL West and after a strong opening day performance by Khris Davis they have every right to feel that way. Davis made a case for the MVP last season, which Trout won, after hitting 42 HR’s and 102 RBI’s. Davis will lead this A’s offense and if he produces this team may surprise some teams in the AL.
The A’s have a very young pitching rotation, so the hope is they grow as the season happens. Manaea ended the season strong. In three September starts the 25-year-old lefty went 1–0 with a 0.50 ERA, allowing only one run. The Athletics could really use Manaea to continue his strong end of the season in his first start of this season.
The Under is 7–1 in the last 8 meetings in Oakland
Oakland’s Manaea showed promise last season and the big left hander will be a presence on the mound. Manaea got the ND in his last start vs LA in September, allowing only 4 hits and 1 ER. I see more of the same this evening as this should be a low scoring game.
