Two of the top five teams in baseball start a three-game series in Phoenix on Tuesday when the Arizona Diamondbacks host the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers will send RHP Kenta Maeda (10–4, 3.79 ERA) to the mound for Tuesday’s matchup. Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks will counter with RHP Zack Godley (5–4, 2.86 ERA).

Los Angeles is the hottest team in MLB after 44 of their last 51 games, a remarkable stretch of winning baseball. The offense is lead by rookie sensation, Cody Bellinger (.264, 32 HR, 75 RBIs). Bellinger may be a shoe in for NL Rookie of the Year as his impressive rookie season is rivaled by few in the history of baseball. Justin Turner (.349), Chris Taylor (.312) and Corey Seager (.308) have all swung the bats very well this season.

While the Dodgers have a really good offense, the star of this team has been their pitching. They rank #1 in MLB with a 3.07 team ERA and 2.92 bullpen ERA.

Kenta Maeda enters Tuesday having won four straight starts, allowing three earned runs in 22 innings. Maeda is having a pretty quiet 10 win season and he is 5–1 with a 2.20 ERA over his last six starts.

The Diamondbacks must feel pretty good about their starter for Tuesday night. Zack Godley hasn’t allowed a run in back-to-back starts, 13 consecutive innings. In his lone career start this year against the Dodgers on July 5, Godley gave up one run in 5 2/3 innings but took the loss.

Arizona’s starting pitching has been just as good as the Dodgers, ranking 2nd (behind LA) with a team ERA of 3.55. The Diamondbacks bullpen ranks 6th with a 3.54 ERA.

The Diamondbacks offense was one of the best to start the season but they have tapered off in recent weeks. As a team, the Diamondbacks are batting .256 with 139 home runs.

Godley is 7–4 with a 5.20 ERA over 23 appearances at Chase Field.

Arizona is a battling the Rockies for the NL Wildcard and they enter Tuesday’s game a .5 game behind the Rockies. The problem is they are facing the Dodgers who just completed the best 50 game stretch by any team in the history of baseball. Maeda has pitched very well recently and has almost been an overlooked part of this starting rotation. I’ll take the Dodgers -125 as a small road favorite and will ride this team until they prove me wrong. Winning is contagious — take the Dodgers -125.
