Los Angeles Dodgers (5–4) at Chicago Cubs (5–3)
I see a lot of value in this matchup between the two National League power teams as the Chicago Cubs host the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 3 of this three-game series. The teams have split this series (1–1) leading into game three.
Los Angeles will usher out (L) Hyun-Jin Ryu. Ryu won 14 games in 2013 and 2014 but spent 2016 injured. The Dodgers are happy to have him back healthy. Ryu did lose his first outing of the season to the Rockies but he is 1–0 with a 2.92 ERA and 12 strikeouts in his career against the Cubs and 17–9 with a 3.39 ERA in 31 career starts on the road. The Dodgers have been a solid offensive team so far as they come in ranked 5th in the league in scoring, putting up 5.25rpg, while also ranking 8th in hitting at .254 and 12th in homers with 9.
Winning the Wolrd Series can have some “downside” in terms of the banner ceremony, the ring ceremony and the media circus that follows during the Cubs home opening series. It’s tough to say whether it causes distractions for the players but it has to be mentally draining. Nevertheless, the Cubs look to avoid back-to-back losses for the first time this season. Chicago is coming off a shutout loss Wednesday and have scored three runs or less in five of eight games. A World Series hangover is certainly a plausible explanation but the Cubs will once again be one of the best teams in the NL and MLB this season.
Toeing the rubber for the Cubs will be Brett Anderson, who got a no-decision in a 2–1 Cubs loss to the Brewers in his first start of the year. He allowed one ER on five hits in 5.2 innings of work in that game.
The Dodgers have been knocking on the NL Championship door for a few years now and they undertand the NL goes through Chicago. This is a great opportunity to take this early season series on the road. I feel the Dodgers have the edge with Ryu on the mound and they are facing Brett Anderson who was on the Dodgers the past three seasons, so they should know how to hit Anderson. Take the Dodgers at plus money +121 for the win.
