Leonard Fournette and the LSU Tigers kick off their season at Lambeau Field and take on the Wisconsin Badgers. Luckily for the Tigers it’s September which means they won’t have to deal with ice cycles hanging off their face masks. Oddsmakers have the Tigers pegged as -10 point favorites on the road. Do the Badgers have what it takes to stop the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy?
Wisconsin plays the underdog role very well, winning five times outright in their last 11 spots as dogs, going 8–3 against the spread in the process. Coming off a 10-win campaign of a season ago, which included a bowl victory over USC, Wisconsin returns 11 starters this season. Five starters are back on offense, anchored by three along the offensive line. This also includes six starters back from a defense that limited opponents to just 269 yards and 14 points per game last year. Last season, the Badgers opened up against another SEC team, Alabama, losing 35–17 as +12.5 point underdogs.
LSU RB Leonard Fournette is eager to get his 2016 campaign underway. The Junior came onto the scene in a big way last season, rushing for 1953 yards and 22 TD’s. Fournette is a favorite to win the Heisman Trophy this season.
The Tigers return 16 starters this season from a team that went 9–3 last year, and rate among the favorites to both win the SEC and make the CFP. Eight starters are back on offense, including Fournette, along with QB Brandon Harris. Eight starters are also back from a defense that held opponents to 347 yards per game last year.
LSU vs Wisconsin Prediction: Both of these teams make their name by playing solid defense and running the ball. LSU has more athletes and the ability to go over the top with Dupre and company. The Badgers will be a tough opponent in an intimidating environment but ultimately the Bayou Bengals walk out of historic Lambeau with the win. My play is on the Under 44.5 and I see this game in the range of 24–13.
