Line: UNC +5, 46.5
Pick: Miami Hurricanes -5
North Carolina enters Week 2 off of an upset victory over South Carolina as +12.5 point dogs to host the Miami Hurricanes in an ACC battle at Kenan Memorial Stadium. Current odds list the Hurricanes as -5 point road favorites but will Mack Brown and Tar Heels cover the spread as home dogs?
Miami had a tough task in Week 1 going on the road to the Swamp to take on the Florida Gators but they did cover as +7 point road dogs in their 24–20 loss. The Hurricanes had a defensive battle with Florida and the defense created four turnovers while holding the Gators to just 50 rushing yards. Miami had one of the top-ranked defenses in 2018 and this season they appeared poised to make offenses work for their yards and this week they face freshman QB, Sam Howell. Howell showed tremendous poise vs. South Carolina but he’ll see more pressure this week from a Hurricanes defense that has a knack for creating turnovers. UNC’s offense featured a balanced attack last week, passing for 245 yards and picking up 238 yards on the ground.
It wasn’t a surprise that Miami lost on the road to a top-ranked Florida team but they played tough and they will benefit from a week of rest and preparation before taking on UNC. The Tar Heels appear to be on the right track with head coach Mac Brown but the Hurricanes have more talent in every facet of the game. Miami will be eager to win their first game of the season and the defensive pressure put on freshman quarterback, Sam Howell, will ultimately provide key turnovers for the Hurricanes. Take Miami -5 on the road as they should cover this spread by at least a touchdown.
