Milwaukee Brewers vs Pittsburgh Pirates FREE MLB Total Pick, 5–31–2019
Milwaukee Brewers (32–25) vs Pittsburgh Pirates (27–28)
Time: Friday, May 31, 7:05 PM EST
Current Odds: Pirates +105, O/U 9
The Milwaukee Brewers will take on their NL Central rival, Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. The Brewers bats were alive on Thursday as Milwaukee grabbed Game 1 of this four-game series with an 11–5 victory.
Friday’s Pitching Probables: Jhoulys Chacin (3–6, 4.88 ERA) and the Pirates will counter with Chris Archer (1–5, 5.75 ERA).
Milwaukee has played .500 ball the last 10 games but this series is important for both teams in order to keep pace with the Chicago Cubs in the Central. Mike Moustakas is having a solid season for the Brewers and he made a huge impact in the series opener going 4–6 with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs. Lorenzo Cain also had a big game with three hits and four RBIs. As a team, the Brewers are scoring 4.98 RPG and they have hit 96 home runs which ranks them 3rd in MLB. Jhoulys Chacin will toe the rubber for the Brewers and he has gone (3–6) with a 4.88 ERA on the year, including 0–3 with a 4.50 ERA over his last three starts and 1–5 with a 5.90 ERA in six starts on the road.
The Pirates have now lost eight of their last 11 games to fall to 27–28 on the year and 4.5 games out of first in the National League Central. The biggest issue for the Pirates of late has been their pitching which has allowed 8.0 RPG over their last 10 games. On average, the Pirates offense averages 4.07 RPG which isn’t enough to compensate for their poor pitching. Pittsburgh will usher out Chris Archer who has gone (1–5) with a 5.75 ERA in eight starts on the year, including (0–5) with an 8.73 ERA over his last five starts and (1–3) with a 4.50 ERA in five starts at PNC Park.
I find it difficult to back either starting pitcher in Friday’s matchup but I like the OVER 9 as a Total play. The Over is 4–1 the last 5 meetings in Pittsburgh, 8–3 in the last 11 meetings overall. The Over is 13–2–1 in Pirates last 16 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game and 13–3 in Pirates last 16 home games. Look for this matchup to follow Thursday’s trend and we should see some runs scored in Game 2.
