Minnesota Twins vs Cleveland Indians
Time: Thursday, June 6, 7:10 PM EST
Odds: Cleveland Indians +100, O/U 8.5
The Cleveland Indians aim for a three-game sweep of their AL Central-leading rival, Minnesota Twins at Progressive Field in Cleveland. The Twins were defeated by the Indians on Tuesday in the series opener 5–2 and in Game 2 on Wednesday the Indians won 9–7. In Game 3 on Thursday the listed starting pitchers will be Jose Berrios (7–2, 3.27 ERA) for Minnesota and Trevor Baur (4–5, 3.76 ERA) for the Indians.
Minnesota will look to Jose Berrios to avoid the sweep on Thursday. Berrios walked away with a no-decision on Friday after allowing three runs on three hits with eight strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings at Tampa Bay. Berrios is 2–1 with a 3.86 ERA in six road starts this season, conceding 3 runs or fewer in four of the starts. Berrios opened the season vs the Indians at home March 28, striking out 10 in the win and improving to 4–2 with a 4.00 ERA in eight career starts versus Cleveland.
Cleveland will lean on Trevor Baur to complete the sweep on Thursday. Baur has shown mixed results this season and he has not recorded a win since April 30th after starting the season 3–0. The Indians starting rotation has suffered numerous injuries including Corey Kluber, Mike Clevinger, and Danny Salazar. Bauer has a 5.50 ERA during his six-start winless streak but the offense has not supported that much by totaling just 12 runs and going 1–5 in those games.
Minnesota leads the AL Central by 9.5 games over the Indians and has been one of the top teams in baseball this season. The Twins 21–11 record on the road is the best in MLB and the Twins are 8–1 in Berrios’ last 9 starts. In addition, the Twins are 12–4 in their last 16 road games and 21–6 in their last 27 vs. American League Central. The Twins need to avoid the sweep and I like them to bounce back with Berrios on the mound vs a battered Trevor Bauer.
