The New York Mets suffered another loss on Thursday to Padres, 4–3. The Mets have now lost 10 of their last 13 outings as they dropped down to 19–26 in the AL Central standings. They now trail the division-leading Washington Nationals by 8.5 games.
Jacob deGrom (3–1, 3.56 ERA) gets the nod tonight and the Mets hope he can deliver another quality start. deGrom has pitched well this season but he has suffered 5 no decisions due to a lack of run support. He was spectacular in his last start against the Los Angeles Angels, throwing seven shutout innings in a 3–0 victory last Friday.
Michael Conforto has been the lone slugger in the Mets lineup, leading the team in just about every offensive category. Conforto is batting .336, 46 hits, 13 HR’s, 32 RBI’s and a .693 slugging percentage. However, Conforto can’t do it all and the rest of the Mets lineup will need to wake up.

Pittsburgh send sinkerball pitcher Chad Kuhl (1–4, 5.85 ERA). He has never the faced the Mets in his young career. Kuhl returned to form Sunday against the Philadelphia Phillies, allowing just one hit and two walks, while striking out five, in five innings and picking up the 1–0 victory.
Like the Mets, Pittsburgh has suffered from offensive droughts. Andrew McCutchen has not been himself this season and is batting just .203. Josh Harrison has hit well batting .304 with 6 home runs and 16 RBI’s. One of the issues with Pittsburgh has been the absence of power numbers. The Pirates are batting just .236 as a team, ranking 27th in MLB, and they have hit just 45 home runs. It won’t get any easier facing deGrom tonight.

I see this game going Under 8.5 runs and I’ll lean on the starting pitchers to both give quality starts in what should be a low scoring game.
