New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox

Line: Yankees +115 | Red Sox -135, O/U 9 | Game Time: 7:10 pm

The most historic rivalry in Major League Baseball gets underway tonight in Boston as the New York Yankees take on the AL East-leading Red Sox. The Yankees enter this series after sweeping their cross town rival, New York Mets in a home and home series. The Yankees took all four games and they now have a +3.5 game lead in the AL Wildcard.

The Yankees enter this series after sweeping their cross town rival, New York Mets in a home and home series. The Yankees took all four games and they now have a +3.5 game lead in the AL Wildcard.

Boston has won 8 of their last 10 games and lead the AL East Division by 4.0 games over the Yankees and they have the 2nd best record in the AL behind the Astros.

Rookie Jordan Montgomery makes his 23rd start of the season for the Yankees. He is 7–6 with a 3.94 ERA, 38 walks, and 115 strikeouts over 121 innings this season. Montgomery recorded a no-decision his last time out, which came Sunday at home against the Red Sox. He threw 5.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits with three walks and four strikeouts as the Yankees fell, 3–2, in 10 innings.

Yankees are 1–6 in Montgomery’s last 7 starts vs. a team with a winning record.

Boston relied on timely hitting as they rallied to a walk-off win in the finale of their set with the Cardinals. The Red Sox have gone an astounding 12–2 over the last 14 games — including taking two of three against the Yankees in the Bronx — averaging a little over six runs per game during that stretch.

Drew Pomeranz gets the nod tonight and he is 12–4 with a 3.39 ERA. Pomeranz has allowed no more than three runs in 10 of his last 11 starts.

Red Sox are 14–3 in Pomeranz’s last 17 starts vs. a team with a winning record.

This is a great way to kick off the weekend. Both of these teams have some momentum and with the Playoffs within reach, the tension will be high. Pomeranz has been very reliable this season and it appears he is getting stronger with each outing. Montgomery may be sliding a bit and hitting the rookie wall. Boston is coming off a day’s rest with a healthy bullpen and the same can’t be said about the Yankees. I’m looking for Boston to jump on Montgomery and the Yanks bullpen en route to a Game 1 win.
