Estrada Eyes First Win in Over a Month — Marco Estrada will get the call for the 18th time of the season, aiming for his first win since May 27th. Estrada conceded two runs on seven walks in 4.1 innings pitched to the Red Sox five days ago, and finished with the no decision. The veteran right-hander had a very rough month of June which dropped his record down to 4–6 with a 4.86 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP in 96.1 innings pitched this season. He surrendered seven runs in his latest start against the Yankees last month and held them to one run in seven innings in his first start against them this season.
Pineda Notches Quality Start in Win Over Astros — Michael Pineda is back on the mound for the 17th time of the season, targeting his ninth win of the year. Pineda was solid in his previous outing, allowing three runs (two earned) in six innings to the Astros, and notched the win to improve his record to 8–4. The hard-throwing right-hander had three rough starts in June, and currently features a 4.05 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP in 93.1 innings of work. He battled the Blue Jays last month and was hit-hard, allowing five runs in five innings, and now possesses a 2–4 record with a 3.52 ERA in 12 career starts against Toronto.
Final Thoughts: I am taking a stab with the Blue Jays in this matchup, however my stronger play in on the total. The Yankees have not been winning many games with Pineda on the mound against Toronto, and Pineda allowed five runs on ten hits against the Blue Jays last month. This is a good chance for Toronto to break out offensively going against a pitcher that is struggling with consistency. Also, Estrada usually pitches well against the Yankees over the last few seasons as seen in the trends, and I am confident he can at least do enough to contain their bats.
