Saturday, February 9, 2019, 8:30 PM EST
Line: Rockets -2, O/U 235
The Houston Rockets will take aim at the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday night in a battle of top Western Conference teams at the Toyota Center. The Thunder are on a heater winning nine of their last ten games and going 8–2 ATS during this stretch. Houston has won three-straight games on the road and on the season the Rockets are 19–8 SU at home. These two clubs have tangled two times this season, with the Thunder winning once. The last time they played on December 25th, 2018, Houston won 113–109 behind 41 points from James Harden.
Oklahoma City is 31–23–0 against the spread this season and 16–12 on the road this season. Oklahoma City enters the game ranked third in the league in defensive rating. They’re giving up 109.7 points per contest and are limiting opposing teams to 48.0% from the field and 34.0% from deep. Offensively, they’re averaging 115.2 points and are second in rebounds and 20th in assists. Russell Westbrook is averaging a triple-double for the third straight season and leads the NBA in assists while Paul George leads the team with 28.0 PPG.
On the flip side, Houston ranks third in offensive rating. The Rockets are averaging 113.1 points per game on 41.0% shooting and are 26th in rebounds and 28th in assists. Defensively, they’re giving up 110.9 points per game and are fifth in field goals allowed and seventh in three-pointers allowed. James Harden leads the NBA averaging 36.5 PPG and is having another MVP type season.
The Rockets beat the Thunder by 113–109 back on Christmas Day but so much has changed since then and it’s concerning that the Rockets rely so much on James Harden. Houston is just 2–8 ATS in their last 10 games following a straight up win while the Thunder are 11–5 ATS in their last 16 games following a straight up win of more than 10 points. Oklahoma City has a great supporting cast that has been playing great basketball. I think the wrong team is favored in tonight’s game but I’ll gladly take the Thunder +2 on the road.
