The Ohio State Buckeyes will host the Providence Friars Thursday night in a Big East vs Big 10 matchup. This game is one of many early season matchups between some of the top NCAAB programs in the country.

Providence enters this matchup (1–0) on the season after a decisive 80–58 win over the Vermont Catamounts. A key contributor to the 2017–17 team will be Indiana transfer Emmitt Holt. Holt scored a team high 22 points on 8 of 12 from the floor. The Friars had three players to record double digit points.

Ohio State narrowly won their 2nd straight to start the season, escaping with a 69–63 win over the NC Central Eagles, despite being a 24-point favorite at tip-off. Jae’Sean Tate picked up his first double-double of the season, racking up 21 points and 10 rebounds and was a force on the offensive glass. Micah Potter joined Tate as the only Buckeye to score at least 10 points in the game with 11 points, including 3 of 4 from behind the arc.

Providence is 6–2 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 2–6 ATS in their last 8 road games. Ohio State is 1–6 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 7–3 ATS in their last 10 vs. the Big East.

Value City Arena can be a tough place to play but Ohio State has not impressed me so far this year. These teams have similar styles of play but the difference will come down to free throws. Ohio State needs to sharpen up their free throw shooting and at this point, I trust Providence +7 in what should be a closely contested matchup. I think -7 points is too many for a Buckeyes squad that failed to dominate a Mid Eastern Athletic Conference team.
