Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinals from the Lone Star state, tips off tonight in Houston. The Spurs vs Rockets series was tied (2–2) but the Spurs gutted out a 110–107 overtime win at home in Game 5 to take a 3–2 series advantage.
Kawhi Leonard was doing it all for Spurs as he led the way with 22 points, 15 rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks but he went down with an ankle injury and did not return. The rest of the team picked up the slack and Manu Ginobili scored 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists including a clutch block with time expiring to squash the Rockets’ chances of forcing a second overtime period.
Two keys to the Spurs win was their ability to play controlled basketball and comitting just 7 turnovers and the 18 offensive rebounds.
Houston had their chances in Game 5 but they couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities. James Harden led the team with a triple-double of 33 points with 10 rebounds and 10 assists but he committed nine turnovers — more than the entire Spurs team. The Rockets leaned on Harden down the stretch and he forced it and committed 4 turnovers in OT.
Head to head, the Spurs are 4–1 ATS in the last five meetings in Houston, the road team is 8–2 ATS in the last 10 meetings and the over is 4–1–1 in the last six meetings.
I like the Rockets to win this game SU and force a Game 7 but the Spurs keep it close and cover the +7.5 point spread.
