The University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale will play host for a Thursday Night NFL matchup between two NFC West rivals as the San Francisco 49ers travel to take on the Arizona Cardinals. The 49ers rolled to a convincing 51–13 win at home over Carolina on Sunday afternoon to remain unbeaten on the season. Arizona had their three-game win streak snapped as they were bounced by New Orleans on the road, 31–9.
San Francisco is 4–0 SU on the road and 3–1 ATS with their lone ATS loss was a 9–0 win over Washington as -10 point favorites but overall the 49ers are 5–2 ATS. The 49ers boast the #1 ranked defense which allows 224.4 total yards per game, 95.7 rushing yards per game and 128 passing yards per game. This team rallies behind their championship-caliber defense that has allowed only 28 points over their last four games. The 49ers’ defense recorded seven sacks and picked off Kyle Allen (Panthers) three times. I expect this unit to have another monster game facing rooking QB Kyler Murray.
Arizona was on a roll with three-straight victories before traveling to New Orleans. Arizona held a 3–0 lead after the opening quarter and was within 10–6 at the half but the Cardinals failed to move the chains or find the end zone. The lack of running depth will affect Arizona with David Johnson inactive and Chase Edmonds knocked out of the game, leaving only recently signed Zach Zenner as the lone active running back.
This matchup does not bode well for the Cardinals offense which lacks a running attack while facing the top-ranked defense in the NFL. Arizona’s defense also ranks near the bottom of the NFL in all defensive categories and they will try and contain a 49ers offense that is coming off their best game of the season after dropping 51 points on the Panthers. The 49ers may be the top team in the NFC and they are winning games offensively and defensively. This could be a long game for rookie QB Kyler Murray and I don’t see how the Cardinals offensive line can protect him long enough to make plays. The Cardinals have played well vs. lesser competition but the 49ers are a complete football team that is red hot. I like San Francisco big on Thursday night as -8 point road favorites.
