The Houston Texans and Oakland Raiders travel to Mexico for a Monday Night Football clash in sold-out Estadio Azteca. This is the first Monday Night Football game played outside the United States. Houston is coming off a win against the Jacksonville Jaguars and have won three of their last four games placing them 1st in the AFC South.
QB Brock Osweiler has struggled this season after signing with the Texans in the offseason. Osweiler was in line to take over for Peyton Manning in Denver but he made a leap of faith to sign for more money in Houston. It was apparent he didn’t want to be compared to Manning and wanted to blaze his own path. However, Osweiler thrown for only 1818, 11 touchdowns to 9 interceptions.
Bill O’Brien has been working to get him to be more of a game manager and not make bad decisions which lead to turnovers. He did just that last Sunday vs Jacksonville as Osweiler ended up with 99 yards on 14 of 27 through the air and did a great job not turning the ball over the entire game. He may have more opportunities tonight vs this Oakland defense which ranks 30th in the NFL. If he can manage the game and let his defense control the outcome, they have a chance to win this matchup.
Oakland Raiders

The Oakland Raiders have been looking to get over the hump the past couple of years. They have drafted well and stockpiled a number of great talents from college football. One of them is their franchise QB Derek Carr.
Derek Carr has been very impressive this season throwing for 2505 yards, 17 touchdowns to 3 interceptions. Carr has tremendous talent to throw to which makes his job a little easier. Amari Cooper leads the team with 58 receptions, 843 receiving yards and is averaging 14.3 yards per catch. Opposite of Cooper is Michael Crabtree who leads the team with 6 touchdown receptions and has caught 49 balls and averages 12.2 yards per catch. WR Seth Roberts has also chimed in with 4 touchdown receptions and in addition, Carr has thrown touchdown passes to 7 different receivers.
Oakland’s defense is their achilles heel. They are equally bad stopping the run as they are the pass. They currently rank 30th in the NFL in overall defense allowing 398 YPG, 114 rushing yards per game, allowing 24.8 PPG and opposing QB’s have benefited from a 92.94 QB rating.
Oakland has been able to rest this past week coming off a BYE week. In the week prior Oakland had a huge win over Denver, 30–20. This solidified their record and made it known that the Raiders are for real in 2016.

An interesting statistic to look at in the game are that the Houston Texans are 5–19 SU and 7–17 against the spread in the last 24 games as an underdog of 5.5 points or less. The line is currently at -6 and the Texans are just 1–2 ATS on the season, Away, as underdogs up to +6.5 points. The Raiders are 1–0 ATS as favorites up to -6.5 points on their home turf. While both teams are technically away, this atmosphere may play like they Raiders are at home. Raiders fans travel well and playing in Mexico should be no different. Houston is not a team to overlook but I feel that Houston’s record doesn’t necessarily indicate where they’re at as a football team. The Raiders should be well rested and look for this game to be of similar outcome as vs Denver, playing a similar defense to the Broncos. I see the Raiders covering the -6 point spread.
