Texas Rangers vs Baltimore Orioles
First Pitch: 7:05 PM EST | Camden Yards
Current Odds: Orioles -115, 10
Starting Pitchers: (TEX) C Hamels (4–0, 3.05 vs. (BAL) Wade Miley (4–8) 5.40
The Texas Rangers hope to snap a four game losing streak and avoid a three game sweep at the hands of the Baltimore Orioles tonight at Camden Yards. Texas’ Wildcard expectations are fading with each passing loss, while the Orioles are slugging their way to wins are tied with the Rangers in 7th place in the Wildcard standings.
Texas pins their hopes on lefty Cole Hamels, who has pitched very well his last two outings. Hamels has gone (2–0) his last two outings with a .82 ERA and allowed only 9 hits over 7.2 innings in both starts. Hamels was on the DL for two months with an oblique injury and if the Rangers have postseason expectations, they will need Hamels pitching like an ace.
The Rangers are 19–9 in Hamels’ last 28 road starts
Wade Miley will take the bump for the Orioles tonight, opposing Cole Hamels. While Hamels hasn’t lost this season, Miley has not pitched well and has lost 8 of his 19 starts. Opposing batters at hitting .298 off Miley and his WHIP is a staggering 1.80. Miley is (1–2) with an 11.25 ERA in his last three starts. He gave up 7 runs and 9 hits in 4.2 innings in his last start. He faced the Rangers four times last season while pitching with the Mariners and allowed 18 earned runs in 22 innings.
Baltimore is 2–8 in their last 10 games vs. a left-handed starter
A staggering trend to look at for this matchup is the Rangers are 25–4 in Hamels last 29 starts vs a team with a losing record. The Orioles have swung the bats really well in this series but great pitching beats great hitting and I like the way Hamels has pitched since his return. I’m taking the Rangers as small road dogs (+105) as Texas avoids the sweep.
