Boston College Eagles vs Wake Forest Demon Deacons
NFL: Thursday, September 13th, 5:30 PM EST
Odds: Wake Forest +4.5, 55.5
An ACC division matchup scheduled for 5:30 pm EST tonight as the Boston College Eagles visit the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. This game was moved up due to Hurricane Florence. The Eagles have opened their season with two non-conference games that were easy wins. BC outscored UMass and Holy Cross by a combined score of 117–35. Wake Forest is (2–0) with a 51–20 win over Towson and a 23–17 win over Tulane in overtime. Boston College is (2–0 ATS) and Wake Forest is (0–2 ATS) to start the season.
Boston College went (7–6) last season but they return 16 starters including one of the best running backs in the country, AJ Dillon. Dillon is considered one of the best backs in the country after rushing for 1,589 yards and 14 touchdowns last season and made 1st Team All ACC as a freshman. So far this season has rushed for 247 yards and three touchdowns on just 26 carries, an impressive 9.5 yards per carry. Sophomore QB Anthony Brown is a dual-threat quarterback that could give the Wake Forest secondary some issues. Brown has thrown for 4 touchdowns on the season but he played only 1 quarter vs Holy Cross. Brown will get more playing time tonight going up against a weaker Wake Forest pass defense.
The Demon Deacons feature freshman QB, Sam Hartman who has thrown for 620 yards, 4 TDs, and 3 INTs. The Demon Deacons biggest offensive weapon, Greg Dortch, is off to a sizzling start to the year, collecting 243 receiving yards in two games. He will line up against a Boston College secondary that struggled in week one against UMass. Defensively, Wake Forest is allowing 18.5 points and 423 yards per game. Chris Calhoun leads the Wake Forest Demon Deacons with 14 tackles, Willie Yarbary has 1.5 sacks and Essang Bassey has one interception.
As the hurricane makes its way towards North Carolina, the winds could intensify as the game wears on. Both teams may lean hard on the running game and the advantage goes to Boston College. Boston College is being priced like a top 25 team laying -4.5 on the road but they have one of the best backs in the country and a defensive line that will get after freshman quarterback, Sam Hartman. Wake Forest beat BC by 24 points last season but the Eagles return more players this season and the revenge factor is in play. I like this Boston College team and their rushing attack will control the game clock. Take the Eagles on the road laying -4.5 points on Thursday night and look at the Under 55.5. The total has gone Under in 8 straight meetings.
