The Washington Wizards avoided a dreaded 0–3 series start by beating the Toronto Raptors on Friday, 122–103. Toronto took Game 1 114–106 last Saturday and followed that up with a 130–119 home win in Game 2 on Tuesday night. The Wizards are +2 point home dogs in tonight’s Game 4 matchup in Washington, DC.
Some of the biggest factors in Game 3 were the 19 turnovers that Toronto committed, which Washington converted into 28 points. Toronto lost the rebounding battle 39–34 and the Raptors were outscored in the paint 52–44. Toronto will also need to do a better job of defending John Wall and Bradley Beal who both scored 28 points in Game 3. After scoring 23 in Game 1, Serge Ibaka has scored just 13 points in the next two games, including a minuscule three-point output on Friday. Ibaka was picked up at the trade deadline last season and he will need to have a better game for the Raptors and prove his worth and he can’t allow Marcin Gortat to outplay him.
The Wizards were hot from the field in Game 3, shooting 55.3% from the floor. Washington turned up the defensive pressure which was really a factor in the outcome of Game 3. Marcin Gortat dropped 16 points in 8 of 10 shooting and getting the best of Serge Ibaka. Washington’s physical style of play caught the Raptors off guard and you can expect the Wizards to keep up the level of intensity in Game 4.
