Virginia Tech Hokies (8–3) vs. Virginia Cavaliers (8–3)

Time: Friday, November 29, 12:00 PM EST
Current Odds: Virginia +2.5, O/U 47

An ACC matchup on Black Friday will determine which team will face the Clemson Tigers in the ACC Championship as the Virginia Tech Hokies take on the Virginia Cavaliers. The two Commonwealth schools come in at 8–3 overall and, more importantly, tied for the top spot in the Coastal Division with matching 5–2 records. Virginia Tech has beaten the Virginia Cavaliers 16 straight times and the Hokies have covered the spread in 3 straight games.

Virginia Tech is riding high with wins in six of their last seven games, including a 28–0 drubbing of Pittsburgh this past weekend. The lone loss for the Hokies was a 21–20 loss to Notre Dame on the road. The Hokies come into the week scoring 30.8 points per game and allowing only 22.3 points per game on defense. After back-to-back shutouts, Virginia Tech’s defense will be tasked with stopping dual-threat quarterback Bryce Perkins, who leads the Cavaliers in passing and rushing this season.

Virginia has won 4 of 5 and most recently dismantled Liberty, 55–27. The Cavaliers’ offense is predicated around senior quarterback Bryce Perkins, who has played exceptionally well over the last 3 games, 835 yards with six touchdowns and no interceptions and in addition, 248 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground during that span. The Cavaliers defense has surrendered only 22.9 points and 323.2 yards of total offense per game, including only 204.4 yards per game through the air, which ranks 39th in the country.

Both teams have progressed throughout the season but the Hokies defense has registered back-to-back shutouts. Virginia Tech’s defense will be the key to this matchup as they look to shut down Virginia QB Bryce Perkins. Too much of the Cavaliers offense is reliant on Perkins and if the Hokies can contain Perkins they have a fantastic shot at a road win. The Hokies are the hotter team coming in, having dominated their last three opponents to the tune of 99–17 while the Cavaliers have gotten by but in less convincing fashion. Look for the Virginia Tech Hokies to win outright and cover the -2.5 point spread.
