Washington Wizards vs Oklahoma City Thunder
NBA: Thursday, January 25th 8:00 PM EST
Odds: Thunder -5.5, 213.5
Two playoff contenders hit the court Thursday night in Oklahoma City as the Thunder host the Washington Wizards. Both teams currently sit in 2nd place in their respective divisions. Bookmakers list the Thunder as -5.5 point home favorites with the O/U at 213.5.
Washington has played .500 ball the last 10 games and the Wizards have lost three of four. On Monday, the Wizards were run off the court in Dallas as the Mavericks beat the Wizards 98–85. All-Star PG John Wall will need to turn around his team before the All-Star break.
The Wizards are 10th in the league in scoring offense with 106.5 points per game, 18th in the league on the glass with 43 RPG, The Wizards and 11th in the league allowing 105.3 points per game. Bradley Beal and John Wall were both named All-Stars and they represent the Wizards with the best backcourt in the NBA. The Wizards may be without Otto Porter Jr. who left Monday’s game with a hip strain. Porter is averaging 13.5 PPG and 6 RPG which would be a big loss for the Wizards.
It took some time for this Oklahoma City team to play as a team but they seem to be on the right track. The Thunder have won five straight games and 7 of 10 but they have gone 5–5 ATS. The Thunder have plenty of offensive weapons with Russell Westbrook, Paul George, and Carmelo Anthony and the biggest issue they have is spread the ball around enough for all of their players to wet their beak. Surprisingly, they average just 105.4 PPG ranking them 16th in the NBA. Where this team thrives is on the glass, ranking 6th in the NBA with 45 rebounds per game and 3rd in the NBA allowing 101.4 PPG.
The Wizards are below .500 on the road (11–12) this season and against the number, they are just 2–6 ATS vs the Western Conference, 1–4 ATS the last 5 road games and 1–8 ATS their last 9 games overall. OKC is 4–1–1 ATS the last 6 meetings vs the Wizards, 3–1–1 ATS the last 5 meetings in Oklahoma City and the home team is 7–3–1 the last 11 meetings. The Thunder seems to be finding their stride and their defense should be able to contain this Wizards team. I like the Thunder to win this matchup and cover the -5.5 point spread.
