It was the summer of 1973, and Teresa Sue Hilt — Tess to all who knew her — was a 22-year-old post-graduate at Northwest Missouri State University. The bubbly, petite young woman was pursuing a psychology degree and had the whole world at her feet, having just finished her thesis on alcohol and mental health.

“She was a small girl with a big smile and even bigger laugh,” the Justice for Tess website recalls.

However, in the August of that year, all of Tess’s hopes and dreams were to be abruptly snuffed out when she was brutally murdered in her own off-campus apartment. Now, five decades later, those who loved her must be wondering why no one was ever caught and punished for the heinous crime — and, after so long, if they ever will be.

Perhaps in continuing to raise awareness about Tess and the chilling circumstances in which she died, it could lead to new information that may finally unmask her cowardly killer.
