As Body Is Identified, Is Time Running Out For Cold Case Killer?
A Jane Doe found in Las Vegas has been identified as Gwenn Marie Story, missing since 1979 — and police now want to find out who murdered her.
Police in Nevada are hoping that uncovering the identity of a murder victim who had remained nameless for 44 years could help to lead detectives to her killer.
It was 9:00 PM on August 14th 1979 when a man crossing a vacant lot on his way to work in Las Vegas made a grisly discovery on the corner of Sahara Avenue.
A young woman lay dead on the site of the former El Rancho Vegas Hotel, having been stabbed multiple times and left half-nude on the sand. According to a Clark County Coroner’s Office report published by the Tallahassee Democrat, she carried no ID and had been so badly assaulted that her face was unrecognisable.
Authorities determined she was aged between 16 and 21 and was around 5’6” in height, and that she wore full dentures, although the bottom plate was missing and so may have been knocked out when she was attacked.
Interestingly, a label on her clothes suggested they came from Florida, while the medical examiner said the soles of her feet indicated she walked barefoot a lot. She wore no…
